‘1979 Pau International had 2,473 birds up at 9.30am on Saturday June 23rd in a very light West wind. Racing conditions were described as perfect along all routes throughout Europe. The likely Open winner was timed at 6.00 am in Germany, however no birds were reported in Belgium before 9.30am, BICC had 37 members with 51 birds n this race with 26 home on the winning day. Probable winners are Fright and Johnsons of Ramsgate on 905 ypm, this should also figure well in the Open result…’
(Excerpt from ‘The Racing Pigeon’ 29th June 1979)
‘This two year old mealy cock was the winner of the Pau International race in our club (BICC). It flew the next race at Barcelona and this accomplished 1252 miles in a fortnight winning 1st Pau and 7th Barcelona for Fright and Johnson of Ramsgate. Aperformance of some merit! The partnership have also had yearlings fly so well at the distance and have, obviously, a fine long distance team.’
